With over 40 years' experience
We have been carefully framing works of art for over 40 years, for a varied clientele of artists, photographers, designers and private individuals looking for quality work at affordable prices.
We offer a full framing service for all types of artwork, including oil paintings, drawings, watercolours, pastels, prints, photographs, textiles, collages, works on paperand 3D works.
Our Frames :
Standard Frame
The is a classic frame made with a standard moulding; it includes the frame, glass, mount and backing board.
This type of frame protects and isolates the work by placing it between a mount, (which can be neutral, coloured or gilded), a plate of glass and an acid-free backing board, to fully protect it in the long term.
Composite Frame
This type of frame requires meticulous work, with a complex assembly of wooden elements to produce a remarkable effect.
It includes the traditional elements (frame, glass, support, mount), enclosing the work in a distinctive frame (coloured or gilded) to show it off to best advantage, whilst preserving it in the long term.
Floating Frame
A frame built for a floating mount is slightly deeper than a standard frame.
The work is mounted on a neutral pH support a few millimetres thick, so it stands proud of the backing board but is protected by spacers and glass. It is ideal for elegantly contoured papers, thick supports or amorphous-shaped pieces and adds an incomparable lightness and preciousness to the work.
Box frame with glass
A box frame generally consists of a deep frame, glass, spacers and a back panel, which adds volume, depth and emphasises the shape and size of the art object.
Works framed in this way are protected from dust, damp and light. This type of frame gives a dramatic 3D appearance in a way that would be impossible to achieve using other types of frame.
Box frame without glass
This is often used for works on canvas as it requires only a frame without glass. Whilst the most effective and economical option for rigid artworks, it is not suitable for all types of work.
The main advantage of this type of frame is that the complete image and its border remain visible, giving the impression that the work is floating in the support. Whether you choose natural wood or a painted frame, it plays a significant role in the way the work is seen.
Finishes :
Waxes or oils can enhance and protect the natural wood, but it is also possible to create a stain or paint colour tailored to the specific features of the work of art.

The Mount
The mount is a key element in framing a work of art, not only to protect but also to enhance it, as it leads the eye towards the image. It can be cut in different shapes specifically adapted to the work: square, rectangular, circular or oval, and can be single or double-layered.
We only use top-of-the-range museum quality mount board made from pH-neutral paper. Acid-free, this protects your artwork better against ageing and acidity which damages works with the passage of time.
FAQs
How are your frames made ?
All our frames are handmade by us, Katya Knight and Peter Trivett, in our artplus workshop, using quality materials sourced locally. Each frame is unique and perfectly suited to your artwork.
As we only use conservation grade materials to provide the best protection against acids and air pollution that can damage your work, you can be sure that your work is in safe hands and will end up in a perfect frame.
How can I get a quote ?
The final cost of a framed artwork at artplus depends on the number of elements required and the size of the artwork. That’s why it’s best to come directly to artplus with your artwork in hand, to get a quote for your specific needs.
Once we have the work in front of us, we can work out the exact details together: classic or composite moulding, box or floating frame and the finish as well as the colour and shape of the mount.
How long does it take for my work to be framed ?
Each frame is handmade, so it takes human time to make! A simple natural wooden frame without glass (a box frame) is much quicker to make and assemble than a work that requires a mount, glass, spacers and a specific finish (standard/composite/floating frame).
We generally complete the work within ten days to two weeks, but if you have several works to entrust to us or an exhibition to prepare, it is obviously preferable to give us as much time as possible, as we won’t compromise on attention to detail and quality.
