The basics of linocuts are simple: engrave, ink and press! This distinctive process creates contrasting flat areas of colour and graphic lines, requires few materials, and can be done on paper or textiles and printed by hand.
You can either bring a drawing sketch idea with you or use one of Veronique’s examples. You will then transfer this design to a lino plate and learn how to use the gouges to cut your design.
Once the plate has been engraved, you will learn how to ink it using a rubber roller and make a print by hand. You will then hone your skills at adding colours and taking several prints on paper and then textiles. Once you’ve mastered the basics, you can practise at home with very little equipment.
NB: Please make sure you bring a rigid folder to take your work home with you.
